Extension of Legal Aid for Mediation

17th November 2014

The Goverment have been keen to promote the use of mediation in family matters and also to achieve a higher usage of the Legal Aid budget for Family Mediation.

From 3rd November 2014, if your expartner qualifies for Legal Aid, you will also have access to Legal Aid for mediation, whatever your means are. This will cover the first joint session of mediation. However, after the first joint session, subsequent sessions of mediation and the drafting of documents will attract the usual fee.

This is a further reason why attending mediation can be a of financial benefit to separating couples and families.

Williscroft Mediation offers a professional mediation service where someone is experiencing separtion and divorce. We can assist with both financial matters and children, direct consultation with children being another service we offer in appropriate cases. The Government is keen to give children more of a say in their lives, this may be an option which could benefit you.
